Are you looking for ways to achieve a stunning smile? Dr. Chad Sears has the expertise to help guide you through this process. Coppe + Sears Orthodontics offers more ways than ever to help treat misaligned smiles, including Invisalign clear aligners.

Over the years, Invisalign has gained much attention, which has also been paired with some misinformation. Dr. Sears is here to help bust some of those myths and help you learn the facts about Invisalign!

Fiction: Invisalign trays are painful

Traditional braces have a reputation for being irritating or uncomfortable, and many people associate that with Invisalign. However, with Invisalign, there is a different treatment approach since there are no metal brackets or wires.

Fact: Invisalign trays are very comfortable

Using SmartTrack material, Invisalign is flexible and customized to your smile. Traditional braces need to be tightened over time and feature brackets and wires that are fixed to the teeth, which causes discomfort. When using Invisalign, you will switch out the trays every 1-2 weeks, causing some pressure that will subside after a day or two.

Fiction: Invisalign is more expensive than braces

Over the years, traditional braces have evolved, which makes them more accessible and affordable. Since Invisalign is a new technology, many believe that the cost will be more. But, do we have some good news!

Fact: Invisalign cost is comparable to braces

Every smile is unique, so there is no set number for treatment costs. Invisalign clear aligners and traditional braces typically cost about the same. If you have dental insurance, it may even cover orthodontic treatment. Our team in our Lexington office will work with you to determine the best treatment plan before we begin.

Fiction: It’s hard to maintain Invisalign aligners

You may first think of the restrictions that come with orthodontic treatment. While having metal braces comes with many regulations, that isn’t always the case with Invisalign.

Fact: Invisalign is easy to maintain

Keeping your Invisalign in mint condition is easy to do. Just remove and rinse with an approved solution to keep them clean and clear. When you’re not wearing them, be sure to use the special care kit to keep them safe. During Invisalign treatment, you will be able to continue your regular oral hygiene routine, which allows you to brush and floss as you normally would. One perk of Invisalign is that there are no food restrictions. During treatment, you will be able to drink and eat whatever you’d like.

Fiction: Treatment takes longer with Invisalign

A common assumption with Invisalign is that the treatment time will be longer than with traditional braces. This is because metal braces are fixed to the teeth, and Invisalign is removable. But, that is not the case.

Fact: Treatment time with Invisalign is similar to metal braces

There is no one-size-fits-all answer regarding treatment time, as we see a variety of cases at our Lexington office. Many factors come into play when considering treatment time, like age, orthodontic issues, and compliance. Treatment time with metal braces is around two years, whereas Invisalign averages less than two years.

Invisalign: Fact or Fiction

Fiction: Invisalign doesn’t work as well as braces

This is a myth worth busting! People believe that Invisalign is less effective because it is removable. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.

Fact: Invisalign is just as effective as metal braces

Invisalign has come a long way over the years, thanks to advancements in technology.  Originally, clear aligners were used for post-treatment retention, but now we have found that they are just as effective at correcting orthodontic problems as traditional braces. When used as directed by Dr. Sears, you can achieve the same stunning results with Invisalign.
